I am a believer that a short story should have one tightly written plot, and leave the reader with one emotion. This short quick read delivers. I am glad the cover of this story caught my attention, it's eery boldness made me want to read the story immediately, instead of adding it to my TBR pile.Jack is a teen who has been on the receiving end of too much bullying. To avoid another bout he runs into the pumpkin field that he has been told not to. There in lies the well told tale.

"Legend of the Pumpkin King" is a short, scary Hallowe'en story about a bullied young teen who dies in a pumpkin field as a result of being bullied. His spirit is furious when it realises he is dead, and it avenges itself on the townspeople who bullied and mistreated him in life. The cover illustration is superb and I wish there had been similar illustrations accompanying the text, although the story was excellent, even without illustrations. The story is reminiscent of a Grimm fairy tale or a Washington Irving story, and anyone who likes that genre should enjoy this little revenge tale.
There was a typo near the end of the story, that spell check did not catch; "site" was substituted for "sight". I saw a bit of irony in that because I have seen "sight" used in several books when "site" was the correct word, and it has become one of my pet peeves. It was amusing to see the reverse.
I read this short the night before Halloween it was very good and I enjoyed the read, I will pull it down again next year, to make the mood for Halloween.
I ordered this for one of my kids, It is too long and advanced for his age but It is a cute story

I really enjoyed Legend of the Pumpkin King. It was well-written and kept me guessing. The protagonist is easy to relate to as well. I would have liked to see a less conclusive ending, but I won't spoil it for you.
This is a fun and entertaining short piece that shows Radcliffe's captivating storytelling ability. I'd call it light horror, as it has the creepy factor without the gore. This is a great Halloween story and also an ideal piece for Bullying Awareness Month, which is October.
Everything in the story is hyperbolised to the point of breaking suspension of disbelief.
