The hunt for answers takes Maika and her friends out to sea...
Monstress #8 eBook Marjorie Liu Sana Takeda
This issue doesn't really delve into Maika's progression toward her goal as much, though they are at sea and moving toward it still. This one focuses predominantly on some character growth for Maika. She's still got the attitude that I really love so much about her, but she's also still struggling with the monster inside her.I'm intrigued by the captain, she's the first black woman in the story and has a respected position of power. She's a great character who commands respect in the small dealings we see with her. I love Kippa and the way her character grounds Maika. She's a reminder for Maika to fight for her own humanity. The siren was an interesting touch and I'm sure we'll get more about the significance of her presence in another issue. The world of this story continues to expand and I just can't get enough of it.
Then there's the mysterious island they are all heading toward and that Maika is supposed to be kept from. We'll see how all of that goes. It wasn't looking too good for her but she's not a character that is easy to be rid of either. I can't wait to see what happens next!

Monstress #8 eBook Marjorie Liu Sana Takeda Reviews
This was a accident never looked at it.
This just continues to impress. The maturity and complexity of the story is amazing, all in such tiny 30 page packages. Marjorie Liu has no problem taking her time with developing the story and characters, but she can do this forever and still keep me engrossed, as good as this is.
We meet a new character, a shark named Old Tooth, but mostly develop characters and plot. Maika, of course, shows new sides, brooding as she is, but it's Kippa who I think makes the biggest gains this time around. I think she underestimates herself. Of course, Ren, the cat, gets in some good one-liners. The captain of the ship also gets a lot of time, making me wonder if she plays a bigger role later on.
I find that a lot of the comics I've been reading lately, Moonshine, Cannibal, Green Valley, Lake of Fire, to name a few, are so heavily male-centric, that Monstress is refreshing in that it's just the opposite. The listed comics, while good comics, treat women as either sex objects or fail to give them any personality. Monstress does not treat its females as sex objects, and it gives them plenty of personality. These are some awesome, strong characters all in a world and story far more compelling than most.
And then there's the art. I am in awe of the art. I am in awe of this comic, period.
I love this series. I can not wait for the next one to be released
There's so much adventure and excitement I love reading this !!! Can't wait for the new issue in December )
This continues to be a beautifully illustrated and written story with no let down what so ever in this volume.
